Can you repair deep scratches in glass?

Despite what some others may tell you, yes, deep glass scratches can be successfully repaired. However, you’ll need a skilled, experienced professional to carry out the repair.

When the glass scratch is more than 100 microns deep, in order to get to the undamaged portion of the panel, a lot of glass must be removed. Of course, when you remove more glass, there is an increased risk of uneven abrasion which causes distortion in the glass. So, the answer to this question is YES, it can be done, but only an expert can repair deep glass scratches properly and without distortion in the finished repair.

Will polishing glass weaken the surface?

No, polishing glass doesn’t weaken it. When glass has become scratched, this has already weakened it through straining the silica lattice. When scratched glass is impacted, it will usually crack in the scratched area. So, that weakness is removed when scratches are polished out of the glass, making the break resistance of the glass around 90-95% of its original strength.

Can glass scratches be removed?

Yes, we have been successfully providing glass scratch repairs and removing scratches from glass for over 10 years.

Will EnduroShield change the appearance of my glass?

No, your glass will look the same after EnduroShield is applied. The only difference will be that water beads up on the glass surface after the application of EnduroShield Professional.

We have a new home. Which surfaces would you recommend sealing?

This will depend on your home’s surfaces and the budget you have. However, at a minimum, we recommend sealing shower screens  and benchtops first. Where there is a brand-new bathroom, it’s advisable to seal the tiles and grout, particularly in the shower cubicle. Other areas you may want to seal include hard-to-clean glass, such as glass pool fences, kitchen splash backs and any feature panels, such as glass stacker doors, especially if they face the road. In coastal areas where salt spray is prevalent, we recommend coating the external glass against damage from exposure to salt and to make cleaning easier.

Our benchtop has a stone chip. How will you fix it?

To fix chips in stone benchtops, we use a UV-cured resin which we colour-match while on site. Once the resin is cured, we sand and polish it to ensure it matches the finish on the surrounding stone area.

How long will an EnduroShield coating last?

When cared for properly, EnduroShield will last for the lifetime of the glass. We provide a 10 year warranty on all new or restored to new glass. With restored glass, there is a 5 year warranty and there is also a 3 year warranty on new tiles, grout and stainless steel.

Can I use my newly sealed shower straight away?

When your shower has been sealed with EnduroShield, it requires 8 hours of curing time, so you can’t use the shower right away. Rest assured, your 1st Choice Fix technician will work with you to ensure minimal disruption when applying EnduroShield in your home.

How long will it take to apply EnduroShield to my shower screen?

EnduroShield application usually takes just 30-60 minutes to complete, depending on the size of the shower.

Are scratch removal services expensive?

In the vast majority of case, 1st Choice Fix can save you hundreds of dollars in comparison to the cost of replacement. We take pride in our honesty and integrity, so we will definitely inform you if replacement is a cheaper and better alternative.

Are you employed by EnduroShield?

No, here at 1st Choice Fix, we work with EnduroShield and are accredited applicators for EnduroShield Professional. By hiring us to apply EnduroShield Pro, your surfaces will be correctly sealed – and we provide a 10 year warranty on that application

Do I need to use special cleaning products?

No, special cleaning products are not necessary for surfaces sealed with EnduroShield. We provide simple directions for you to make our easy-to-make cleaning solution which includes vinegar, water and dishwashing soap. For stone sealed with Dry-Treat, we may recommend a specific cleaning product, but generally a neutral stone product is fine.

How long will it take to remove a scratch?

Depending on the level of damage, repairing a scratch will generally take about an hour from start to finish. Of course, larger areas, such as sliding doors, with significant scratching, can take between 2-4 hours to complete, depending on the depth of the scratches.

How do I know if my stone surface is already sealed?

Generally, you can try wetting your stone surface with some fresh water. If the stone absorbs the water and looks wet when it’s wiped, it is not sealed.

When is the best time to seal my shower with EnduroShield?

For maximum protection, call us once you know the installation date. The best time to seal your shower is 2-3 days after the installation has been completed – and before your shower is used. This is when the silicon is dry. At the latest, it should be sealed within a month, if possible.

My shower is hard to clean. Will EnduroShield help make it easier?

When your existing shower is difficult to clean, you probably need a shower restoration. With this service, we restore and polish your glass back to clear, then seal with EnduroShield. Once sealed, your shower screen will be easier to clean by up to 90% and you can never scrub it again!

Can EnduroShield be applied to Low E-glass?

Yes, we have the latest spray system from EnduroShield, allowing us to spray Low E-glass without damaging the coating. Thankfully, this ensures Low E-glass is much easier to clean.
